Summer!!!
Hi Guys,
What exciting plans for the sunny season have you made? I'm going to Washington D.C. on the 21st and coming back on the 27th. This is for Ames Children's Choir- it's the 10th anniversary, and we're going to be celebrating the ??? anniversary of a war... Yeah, I don't know my stuff as well as I should.
Then on July 10th I'll leave for Tijuana, Mexico with my youth group. We're going to put on VBSs for the local kids, and we'll all need lots of prayer. I know it will be an awesome experience and very rewarding. I also know it will be hard because we girls have to wear skirts that are long enough to go below our knees (culture), we can't wear sandals in the villages (broken glass, etc.), we are sleeping in tents (but I like tenting), and we'll have cold showers. Why would anyone even want to go? We want to help the people there and show them God's love. For me, it's so good to get away from regular life (TV, money, trying to look "good" or impress people etc.) to build relationships with people and God, and focus on Him instead of everything worldly. I'll be home (cultureshock!) on July 18th with a farmer's tan (we have to wear t-shirts), but my shinguard tan line from soccer camp (July 5-9) will be somewhat balanced out by the skirts. Funny how those things work out. ; )
I have Gilbert and Carrol basketball camps June 25-28 and August 1-4. Hopefully I don't have a burn-out! I think it will fire me up more than make me sick of it, but the season is after cross country, so I'll have awhile to wait.
Harmony's wedding is on August 20th, and I get to be a bridesmaid! At the very end of that month, Felicity's baby is due! They're pretty sure it's a girl, and they're going to name her Ava Joy (Ratajczak, pronounced Rat-a-check).
When I'm home, I'll be lifting weights and running to get in shape for cross-country in the fall. Ms. said we'll run 5 miles for the first practice (August 22nd), and that'll be the shortest one that week. Considering I've only been running 3 miles, I need to get my rear in gear! Also, I'll hopefully be working at the Nissens' vineyards and bean fields. Oh, and I'll be taking trumpet/drum lessons with Mr. Covell. So that just about covers my 3 months of freedom, and then it's back to GHS as a freshman. That's kind of exciting b/c I won't be in Jr. High, but mostly bad b/c it's school in general. Oh well... Have a GREAT summer, call me, and don't think about the inevitable.
Love,
Kim
